Any one who is familiar or has some experience inside the US Army could give me a hint about what does this balloon do in the sky?
I took that picture as I arrived to Baghdad on my last trip and I was told that this balloon has similar 3 brothers are all over Baghdad city and its base is inside the US army FOB...
Some said that it has cameras to monitor the area that is underneath it others said it is like a radar that fail to find a signal when the weather is dusty...
Any clue?

"
They are on a tether and can be relatively easily moved to any area required," U.S. military spokesman Maj. Jay Antonelli said.
While the gleaming white balloons are hard to ignore, Antonelli was reluctant to discuss all they can do. "I cannot disclose their capabilities for force-protection reasons," he said.
The balloons’ payload typically consists of an array of high-tech sensors, including a video camera with a zoom lens, a thermal imager or a laser range finder, a U.S. official said on condition of anonymity. The devices mainly look for muzzle flashes from small arms or mortars or try to spot suspicious movements by potential attackers.
While the balloons might appear to be easy targets themselves, they are more likely to survive hostile fire than fixed-wing drones. "

hello نعكشة
Thank you so much for the search and welcome here at my blog :)
I will visit your blog soon.
Hi Marsh,
how are you? thanks for this but now I'm wondering why bin ladin still free, don't they have extra balloons to set in Afghanistan ?!!!
take care
UFO's??? :)
UFO's??? :)
Tom in Texas
I have seen similar balloons in southern Florida here in the U.S. I was told they were for weather, but I expect they are to spot cuban refugees coming ashore. It is only 90 miles from Cuba to where these balloons are. It makes perfect sense that the one you saw is looking for muzzle flashes and other activity indicating hostile actions.
Hey
I agree with نعكشة
i saw a report about it one day on Tv..
its was a lil trip inside and how the ballon works..
its very very expensive, American start using it after Sep 11th 2001..they had only three in time i saw the report and i was suprised when i saw it first time here in iraq..
in case you go to America one day "yea Right", you can see it around Washington, New York and Florida..
Chao
Hello Attawie,
How have you been, long time no see around!
Good question why Bin laden still free while there are swaying ballons in the skies?
Hi Tom,
LOL, they ain't UFO's!!
Hello Average American,
If they are set for monitoring those Cuban refugees, then they might have one in Texas to monitor Mexicans!
