Hello all,
Several things were occupying my mind and I had a hard time to which one should I give the priority to talk about first!
Lemme start from the recent event ending with the most preceding one.
Here are two pictures of the grilled fish ( simich mazgouf), dad is a professional fisherman, he knows how to grill a fish in a robust way. My aunt and uncle's widow were invited to our house yesterday, so dad bought this delicious fish and cooked it out in our front yard…enjoy watching!!!

Feb 1st, at 6:10 P.M I got back from the cemetery, according to the Eastern Christian calendar Feb 1st was the (Dead people's Day). People usually visit their beloved ones whom every one's death differs from others; we have a big cemetery in our city called the Red Church Cemetery, my mom, uncles, grand parents were all buried in that cemetery! On this day, the bishop and other pastors go up to that church which is set on a hill facing the sunset direction, they hold a Mass attended by people to commemorate their beloved ones who left this world, and afterward people lit candles and incense and they bring flowers to put on the graves, some of them bring sweets or bread baked with sugar and distribute on others so the latter say a pray…
Well, it is a traditional ecclesiastic habit, I remember when I was 8ish or 9ish mom used to take me and my sister with her to the same cemetery and teaches us on how to say a prayer for the dead grand parents and uncles, she used to narrate stories about this ancient church and how it wind up to be a cemetery, well I might talk about this story in my next post cuz I need to devote my energy and recruit my memory for this story, to me, it was interesting and fun no matter how many times I listened to that real anecdote.
OK, today we visited our deceased people and said prayers for them…it was sad but important and a must.

Can any one tell me why the hell pets are being attacked? Did doves and dogs participate in the political scheme of this country? Did the monkeys make fun of our flag? Did the snakes backstab us? Did the pet sellers slaughtered Iraqis or commit suicides? A homicide female bombed herself in that pet market in Baghdad this afternoon!! For what? What the hell she will gain? Well I guess it wasn't her fault since she suffered from the down syndrome!! God have mercy please!
Listen every body, even the gentle sex; women, turned to be wild and evils, I wonder when are the children going to bomb their tiny bodies? And over whom? Hmm, might be over teachers and toys!! Every thing is possible in the impossible – united cities of Iraq!

As I said on my post about the New Year, I was optimistic about 2008, well this optimism is still brand shinning in the skyline. It snowed for the second time this season in my city, and this time was better and thicker than the first time on Jan 12th. I was lucky enough to take some pictures with my friends, but this time was in the street, while we were taking pictures a US convoy included 4 vehicles were on the road, two of the US soldiers stepped out of the vehicle, one of them carried a disposable camera, he looked at me and asked if its ok to take a picture with him, I said yes, after some snapshots, he asked about my name and where am from! Hahah, I said: where do you think am from, of course IRAQ! He was shocked, and thought that I was joking or something, he told me that I speak a very good American accent and thought that I am from the States, ahem :D well he even failed to guess my age, he thought that I was 22 years old but in fact am not!
Those guys were surprised about the snow we had. Oh well when I see snow it is as if am seeing peace around me.

I don't even know who said this adage: the world is a small village, but it is %1000 true, we were shocked when the Internet technology invaded our world, life, work and houses but we never thought that there would be another source; mobiles or cellular phones which I call the teeny-weeny genius invention will give every one of us the feeling of mastering the world by one touch!! What a lovely feeling…
Well I might sound kinda old fashioned BUT I am a new user of the Internet via cell phone. Since my cable internet is slow and pain in the hee-haw I decided to try another type of internet connection, I contributed with the KOREK tell communication company in order to have internet in my cell phone, I know it is slower than the one I had but why not, lemme give it a try since am the only-left spoiled girl at house ;) what ever I say I find.
I did buy a card and a SIM card and boom I had internet via my phone, well now this type is making me more sluggish than the first, why? You know that the weather is getting really frosty and I can't resist the heat and the softness I have in my bed, I decided to check my emails and my blog besides your blogs while am in my bed and my head is under my pillow!! What a lovely feeling. I wouldn't imagine that I can travel around the world while am in bed, ahh so relaxing…am thinking of taking my cell phone with me to the bathroom next time, ha-ha.
I am terribly missing my fiancé; he made it to the States a week ago. Well being a Bgahdadi man, he is not used to the cold weather that much, he barley witnessed the snow for the first time in his life last month when he was in Baghdad, well as soon as he arrived to one of the northern States, the snow start falling richly. Poor you honey, don't worry you will get used to it and LOVE IT.
I guess that's all folks!

I really enjoyed reading this post, Marsho! Your happiness rubbed off on me I think :)
The snow looks very nice. I agree with you, snow always makes things seem more quiet and peaceful. During the day, at least. Not so much after it gets dark. Then it's just cold and miserable.
I grew up in one of those "northern states" in the US, and I miss the snow more than anything else. Where I live now, it never snows except in the mountains.
I think those fish your Dad was cooking are called Tilapia in English. I'm not sure, though. What do you call them in Iraq?
Marsh,
I also enjoyed your post, it sounds as if things have been good for you. The thing I love most about snow, especially as it starts to pile up a little bit is how quiet it makes everything. The best feeling in the world is to feel like you are the first one awake and seeing the fresh snow while it is still so white and pure. Eventually everyone walks upon it and drives over it and plows it, but there is nothing compared to that first beauty of it! I'm glad you got two snowfalls this year.
I hope your fiance is safe and doing well in the states. I'm sure he misses home. Good thing he has you to look forward to and keep him going. Is there a wedding date yet? Does he have any family or friends that he will stay with initially?
I'm glad you posted.
I'm surprised you didn't try out your "southern" words on the soldiers. Should have told 'em, "Well howdy, where y'all from?" ;) We may have some snow coming our way. It's kind of a pain when it comes to the traffic, but I sure enjoy it. Used to love going up to the mountains when it was snowing. It's so incredible up there! Give a big ol' Howdy to your fiance for me. Solo

you just should have said " Whatcha doin'?"
The fish looked yummy and the snow was beautiful. I too love to travel the world on my laptop. One of my favorite things to do.

They must have been so surprised - finding a beautiful, fluent English speaker by chance in the street. But what were they up to? Are they driving around looking for pretty women?! Oi! Get on with your work!

Hi ya Mars,
Way kool post...enjoyed :)
We love the photos..Uno :) cuz its like looking through your eyes.
Carp?? ahkk...too many bones..heh
Thanks for the info on the fish, Marsho :)
I found it on Wikipedia (and also on a fisherman's webpage):
http://www.arabhunter.com/fishing/fresh_water_methods.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbus_grypus
Bill, this isn't the same fish we call a carp in the US:
Barbus grypus is a species of barb called in English and Arabic by the common names shabut and variations shabboot or shabbout, and in local languages by several other common names. It is a large freshwater carp found in the Tigris-Euphrates Basin. It is a commercially fished species in this region. This species can grow to a length of nearly two meters and a weight of over 50 kg.
This is the fish I thought that was:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilapia
Interestingly, both some historians claim both of those to be the fish mentioned in the Bible! I wonder how they could ever prove which one is correct it? :)
Hello Dear Micho,
How are you and how is your fiance?
I wish you the best as well...
Hi Bill,
Thanks for being here, long time no see..
well no the carp that we had was full of meat with less bones because it is a riverine fish, while other carp you talked about is marine and full of bones...
