~~Charity TV shows~~

By the beginning of the 21st century, and during the modernization age and because of the enormous numbers of Satellite TV stations, a big skip in TV shows quality has been noticed lately, one of these types that attracted millions of people called reality TV shows. and the latter included many branches the ugly, the funny, the enjoyable, the tragic and the charitable.

What I am going to focus on is the charity work and charity TV shows.

As for the United States of America and its huge studios and financial possibilities in the world, it became the precursor in producing these types of TV shows!

That doesn't mean that the middle East and especially Arabic countries are lethargic in this field, on the contrary, I can mention Iraq (which I will talk about eventually), Lebanon, Egypt and so on...

A lot of these shows took place and improved their success and augmented the rate of view by televisors...

What attracted me the most and stimulates me to these shows is the team spirit amongst the team members!!

One of these shows that I watch on daily basis is : Extreme makeover - home edition- which is broad casted via abc American Broadcasting Company.

Watching this show resuscitates me and makes me believe that good people are still in there helping indigents and positively raising their principles in life!!

Those guys are taking the responsibility of renovating houses, and supplying them with brand-new supplements. And the most important is to decorate each room according to individuals careers and hobbies...granding scholaships to the freshmen. wow! I say wow at the end of each episode, they really make dreams come true. It has been 4 seasons for this TV show!

Other show is broadcasts by MTV called pimp my ride, this show is about renovating poor cars. the guys from west coast customs do their best to make the jalopy looks like a brand-new car . man!! they draw a huge smile on the car owner!! It has been 6 seasons for this show.

Others are for body makeover, health and travel...

As for Iraq and in spite of all the chaos we are being through, the number of charity TV shows are increasing and that synchronizes the increase in violence!! which I found it a big chalenge. Iraqi satellite channels and Alsharqiya channel specifically has adopted these types of shows more than two years ago starting with Krastaw amal which is inspired by the American version of Extreme makeover home edition with less abilities and different way...this show promised renovating the most damaged houses as a result of military operations in that particular area!!

Other shows were devoted to supports orphans in holidays. Marriage, engagement, and opening businesses for small entrepreneurs.

But lately, the show so called Al-yad el baitha (The white hand) outclassed all the aforementioned TV shows of Alsharqyia channel...it took over a huge responsibility of medicate Iraqi children who lost their eyes, legs, hands and those who have cancer and endemic diseases and malformed children...The members of this team work day and night in and outside of Iraq to collect as much as possible information about the patient and study his/her case then review the case with doctors in Jordan, Syria and Egypt to decide when that child needs to start the journey of remedy...

They've done so much, they sent so many kids to Jordan to get treated and they still receiving emails for more new cases...

The picture below shows one of the girls who was born that way with a big tumor starting from her upper lip and covering her face, she can't eat, she breathes severely because of her small nostrils she can't see either...The white hand show adopted her and sent her to Jordan, she went through many operations and surgeries...I don't have a recent picture of her, she looks better after they eradicated the tumor, she is still there to get facial surgeries....

She was getting donations from different sources to get that work done!

This show challenged the critical situation and stood against the terror, for as much as there is paucity in medicine and medical supplies not to mention doctors who got killed by terrorists and others who fled the country; this show improved that there is nothing called IMPOSSIBLE!!

I am sure that every country has similar shows like the one I mentioned with different stories...we should be proud indeed that there is still bunch of creative and supportive people in this world want to serve whom are in dire need of help...God bless them all...

My only question that I couldn't find an answer to: who is funding these shows?

I'm pleased to hear these types of shows are wide spread. I like Extreme Makeover Home Edition. It's about time tv did something positive. Financing here is by commercial sponsors. I don't know how it's done other places. Hopefully new technology, and positive use of the media will put us all in better touch with each other. I'm meeting some great people here in cyberspace. :)

Hi Marsh
It's wonderful that there are children being helped and someone gets a hope in the middle of this chaos.
About your question;
As far as I know ;Al-Sharqiya is funded by Sudia Arabia , and I'm not saying that to insult them or to support other side but it's a fact, well, at least they're doing better than those who are supported by other countries and all what they do is stealing from Iraq instead of building it.

ALL the best

Marsh,

Thanks for the post, I love watching these shows too when I do actually watch tv. I can barely redecorate and they do a whole house. I wish they would do a follow-up like a year later and see how the family and house are doing! Hope you are well.

Hello Solo,

I am sure there are commercial sponsors doing that...but aren't they running out of money ;P ?

Hello a&eiraqi,

Really? KSA?? This is first time I hear that, as I know that Al-Sharqiya is funded by some filthy rich Iraqis living abroad!! Thanks for the info...

Hello Iraqi mojo,

Thanks :)

Hello Liz,

How are you? Are you enjoying your time with family and friends?
Yes, I agree with you, wish they show a follow-up , because some families don't care and they might ruin the house like before!

Marsh,

one of the comedians who works in Sharqiya's show caricature once said this to a very close friend of mine. This should help you understand how they fund those shows:

Sharqiya used to run a similar show a year or so ago, they show the sick disabled children, and they take some Iraqi phone calls about the subject, after the show ends, sheikhs from Saudi Arabia and UAE call and give him 1 million bucks as donations, but conditions that he doesn't mention his name as he is doing it for the face of God. Sharqiya takes 750$ thousand and gives the rest of the money to the poor kid.

I once appreacited Sharqiya's attempt to look hip and with the times, but frankly all their shows are very poor recreations of much better material which emphasises copying than tweaking into originality, and while these shows look very benevolent I cannot help but feel disgusted by the way Sharqiya trumpets itself as the 'savior, the helper, the life-giver, bla bla bla' or that one time when they dedicated a whole news item about Sharqiya head Saad al-Bazazz when he visited the sick child like he was some kinda big Saddam-type schumck, which couldn't be suprising as he was raised the Saddam way.
Still, they're better than nothing i guess. :D

Our Eyes Dream Acid Tears

One land, one people, all asleep
one dream in every mind
all see words of scripture, captive
in a vise of hatred, crushed
distorted words of God, acid
tears, with screaming lips, the captor
feels the kiss of Satan
on his heart.
